Tip 2: Tick off the required skills

The most important thing to keep in mind when writing your cover letter is that the potential employer wants to know that you can meet all of their must-have requirements. Typically, a DevOps engineer job description will have a short list of required skills and some additional desirable skills and experience.

Make sure that you mention at least the top three skills and any relevant qualifications and experience you have that relate to them.

When writing a DevOps cover letter, less is more. Be as concise as possible, while still covering the important details. 

In other words, you don’t need to recount in great detail every job you ever did and project you worked on. Instead, you should pick out a few projects that are highly relevant to the job you’re applying for and emphasize exactly how you helped to generate a successful outcome.

Tip 5: Keep up to date with the industry

The number of opportunities for DevOps engineers is growing by the day, as the world becomes more reliant on digital and cloud technology. It’s a good idea to keep up with all the latest developments, so that you sound knowledgeable when discussing the role. 

Tip 6: End with a CTA

A CTA is marketing speak for a call to action. In sales, it’s well-known that a strong CTA makes a huge difference in conversion rate. A similar principle applies to a cover letter — if you ask the hiring manager directly to read your resume carefully and consider you for the position, they are much more likely to do it.
